Dr. Robert Karlsberg is NeoVista Health’s Chief Operating Officer. He has more than twenty years experience in business leadership and maximizing human performance.
Dr. Karlsberg is a board certified ophthalmologist who started his practice from scratch and built it into a highly successful, multi-location ambulatory facility within a little over 3 years.
After selling his practice, Dr. Karlsberg turned to research in human behavior and expert performance.
He cofounded Expert Performance Systems, a business consulting firm, where he specialized in coaching senior executives and business leaders to enhance their leadership performance, build productive teams and lead change for better bottom-line business results.
A former officer with the U.S. Marines, Dr. Karlsberg is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine. He received postgraduate training at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown University.
After Dr. Karlsberg’s father died following unnecessary surgery, and Dr. Adler’s mother experienced the debilitating consequences of a contraindicated medication — both because treating physicians did not have access to their medical records — Drs. Karlsberg & Adler joined forces in a mission to help physicians across America more rapidly convert to electronic records.
As they began to investigate why so many practices encountered difficulty in EHR adoption, they uncovered astounding information. They learned that millions of dollars and thousands of hours had already been spent by researchers in medical informatics studying this very issue. These researchers had concluded that a significant percentage of EHR failures, underutilizations, and de-installations resulted from human factors, rather than from technical issues.
Practices that effectively managed the human side of change were more likely to realize the promised benefits from their systems. Yet there were few resources available to help build the kind of physician and staff support, cooperation, and collaboration necessary for efficient and productive use of electronic records.
Drs. Adler & Karlsberg developed the Realizing the Promise program to bring the results of this research to physicians across America, to encourage them to adopt electronic records, and to increase the speed and success of EHR implementations.
In addition to the healthcare related resources and articles that you will find on this site, Dr. Karlsberg and Dr. Adler are authors of many articles on leadership development, Expert Performance, and business optimization. They have appeared on radio and television throughout the United States.
